Argentina Begin a New Era Without Lionel Messi as Scaloni Names 28-Man Squad for November Friendlies

    0 0

Argentina have officially announced their 28-man squad for the November international break, marking the beginning of a new chapter following Lionel Messi's retirement from international football. The upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Costa Rica will be the first fixtures under head coach Lionel Scaloni without the legendary forward, who remains the country's all-time leading goalscorer. Argentina have already demonstrated their ability to perform without their former captain, recording convincing victories over Bolivia and Burkina Faso.

Scaloni is now focused on preparing the national team for the challenges ahead, with the November fixtures providing an opportunity to assess new combinations and emerging talents. Argentina will face Uruguay on November 13 at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires before taking on Costa Rica on November 17 at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba. Both matches are expected to play an important role in shaping the squad ahead of the qualification campaign for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Several unfamiliar faces have earned opportunities in the latest selection, including Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino. The 21-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the Premier League side this season but could now receive his first international cap. Parma defender Mariano Troilo and River Plate full-back Gonzalo Montiel have also returned after being absent from previous squads, adding further options to Argentina's defensive department.

Scaloni has also included several players who are looking to establish themselves as regular members of the national team. Roma forwards Santiago Castro and Matias Soule have been rewarded for their progress, while Zenit St Petersburg defender Roman Vega has also received a call-up. Their inclusion highlights Argentina's intention to broaden their options and develop younger players as the team gradually moves beyond the Messi era.

One of the biggest talking points is the inclusion of Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, despite his ongoing recovery from a broken jaw. His fitness will be monitored in the coming days before a decision is made regarding his availability for the two matches. Meanwhile, established stars such as Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, Julian Alvarez and Lisandro Martinez remain part of the squad, providing valuable experience as Argentina prepare for an important transition in their international journey.
