Manchester United Consider New Bruno Fernandes Deal, but One Major Condition Stands in the Way

Manchester United are reportedly considering offering Bruno Fernandes a new contract as they look to secure the future of their captain at Old Trafford. The Portuguese midfielder is currently under contract until June 2027, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by another year. Activating that clause would prevent him from leaving on a free transfer while giving United additional time to assess his long-term future.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, United are open to negotiating a fresh deal but are unwilling to meet excessive financial demands. The club are keen to maintain control over their wage structure and remain cautious about making expensive long-term commitments. A potential transfer is also still on the table, particularly after United were reportedly willing to let Fernandes join Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal during the previous summer transfer window.

Fernandes has recently experienced a challenging period, both on and off the pitch. His comments about United's tactical approach following their Champions League defeat against Como reportedly created tension with manager Michael Carrick. The midfielder questioned the team's tactical direction, putting additional pressure on the coaching staff to address the club's disappointing performances.

The situation became more complicated when Fernandes was left out of the starting lineup against Bournemouth. Although he was sent out to warm up during the second half, he was ultimately not introduced as United suffered a 3-0 defeat. He subsequently returned to the starting team for Saturday's match against Chelsea, but his presence was not enough to prevent another disappointing result. These developments have raised further questions about his relationship with the manager and his position within the squad.

Despite the recent tensions, Fernandes remains an influential figure at Manchester United and previously turned down an opportunity to move to Al-Hilal. His future will likely depend on whether both sides can agree on financial terms that reflect his importance to the team without compromising the club's broader plans. United still have the option to extend his existing contract, but a lucrative long-term agreement is unlikely unless the club believes the investment makes financial and sporting sense.
