In Round 9 of the Premier League, Arsenal secured a 1-0 away victory over Liverpool, claiming their first league win at Anfield in 14 years. Declan Rice assisted Kai Havertz for the only goal of the match and was named Man of the Match.

Rice played the full 90 minutes, providing the decisive assist while also recording three tackles, two clearances and winning five of his ten duels.

His 62 touches were the most of any Arsenal player, highlighting his importance in both build-up play and defensive duties. Sky Sports praised Rice for acting as a midfield shield against Liverpool’s sustained pressure. Jamie Carragher even placed him in discussions about the greatest midfielders in Arsenal’s history, arguing that Rice is currently the best midfielder in the Premier League by a significant margin.

His performances have also strengthened his position in contract negotiations. Arsenal signed Rice from West Ham in the summer of 2023 for a total fee of £105 million. According to previous reports from the BBC and other British media outlets, Rice is close to agreeing a long-term contract extension, with his new weekly wages potentially reaching around £350,000.
