Malik Tillman Faces Uncertain Future at Bayer Leverkusen as January Exit Looms

Malik Tillman Faces Uncertain Future at Bayer Leverkusen as January Exit Looms

Malik Tillman could leave Bayer Leverkusen in January after struggling to make a strong impression since joining the German club from PSV Eindhoven in 2025. The attacking midfielder arrived with high expectations and a reported transfer fee of €35 million, as Leverkusen looked for a creative player capable of filling the void left by Florian Wirtz's move to Liverpool. However, his performances have yet to justify the club's significant investment.

The 24-year-old has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular contributor under Carles Martinez. After six appearances this season, Tillman has managed just one assist, raising concerns about his role in the squad. His limited impact has become increasingly frustrating for a club that expected him to bring greater creativity, attacking quality, and a consistent goal threat to the team.

Tillman came close to leaving Leverkusen during the summer transfer window but ultimately decided to stay and fight for his place. So far, that decision has brought little improvement, leaving the coming weeks crucial to his future. According to Sport Bild, a January departure could become a serious possibility if he fails to take advantage of the remaining opportunities to prove his worth.

Interest from the Premier League could provide Tillman with an alternative destination. Brighton and Hove Albion, Fulham, and Bournemouth were previously liked with the American international during the summer. Brighton reportedly made a strong push to sign him before Leverkusen rejected an offer worth around €45 million. Despite his struggles at club level, Tillman's performances for the United States have offered encouraging signs that he still possesses the quality to influence matches in the right environment.

Leverkusen now face an important decision over whether to continue giving Tillman time to adapt or consider a January transfer that could benefit both parties. The club must weigh his potential against his limited contribution so far, while Tillman needs to convince Martinez that he deserves a more prominent role. If his situation does not improve, a move away from Germany could offer the midfielder a fresh start and an opportunity to rediscover his best form.
