Getafe have secured a major addition to their squad by signing Dani Carvajal on a free transfer. The former Real Madrid captain has agreed to a one-year contract with the Coliseum-based club after receiving a personal call from head coach José Bordalás. His arrival represents a significant move for Getafe as they look to strengthen their defence with one of Spanish football’s most experienced and decorated players.

Carvajal is expected to compete with Kiko Femenía for the right-back position, while his arrival could allow Andrés García to operate in a more advanced role. The versatile defender may also be used as a right-sided centre-back when Bordalás opts for a formation featuring three central defenders. His tactical flexibility gives the coach additional options and could help improve the team's defensive organisation throughout the season.

The financial terms of the move reflect Carvajal’s willingness to begin a new chapter in his career. After earning approximately €10 million net per year at Real Madrid, the 34-year-old is reportedly prepared to accept a substantial pay cut to join Getafe. Having been without a club since leaving Madrid at the end of June, he can continue living in the Spanish capital without needing to relocate.

Bordalás played an important role in convincing Carvajal to make the move, recognising the value of his experience, competitive mentality and leadership qualities. Beyond his contributions on the pitch, the defender is expected to have a positive influence in the dressing room, particularly among younger players. His winning mentality and understanding of high-pressure situations could prove invaluable as Getafe seek greater consistency and stability.

Carvajal arrives with an extraordinary record from his time at Real Madrid, where he made 451 appearances and won 27 major trophies. His honours include six European Cups, six FIFA Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and four Spanish Super Cups. With such an impressive collection of achievements behind him, his arrival could become one of the most significant signings in Getafe’s history and provide the club with a considerable boost for the challenges ahead.
