John Herdman has once again selected 10 players who were part of Indonesia’s squad at the 2026 AFF Cup for the upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The 23-man squad features players across several positions, showing that Herdman has retained a significant portion of the group despite Indonesia’s disappointing early exit from the regional tournament.

Nadeo Argawinata is among the returning players after previously facing criticism during the AFF Cup. The Persija Jakarta goalkeeper conceded five goals against Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore before being replaced by Cahya Supriadi against Timor Leste. However, his recent performances at club level have earned him another opportunity, with Nadeo set to compete with Maarten Paes and Emil Audero for the starting role.

The defensive unit includes three Persija players in Dony Tri Pamungkas, Rizky Ridho and Jordi Amat. Ridho remains an important option following Jay Idzes’ injury, while the midfield retains the experience of naturalised players Ivar Jenner and Thom Haye. In attack, Ragnar Oratmangoen, Mitchell Baker and Rayhan Hannan are among the returning names, while Egy Maulana Vikri also earns another place in the squad.

Indonesia will now shift its attention to the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, which is scheduled to take place from September 25 to October 5. The Garuda are placed in Group A alongside Malaysia, Singapore and Bangladesh, while Group B consists of Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Pakistan. PSSI has set the objective of winning the inaugural edition of the FIFA-organised ASEAN tournament, giving Herdman and his squad another opportunity to compete for regional honours.
