Luis de la Fuente has agreed to extend his contract as Spain head coach until 2032, securing his position beyond the original 2028 expiry date. The new agreement means he is set to remain in charge as La Roja prepare to defend their World Cup crown on home soil in 2030. The extension provides continuity for a national team that has enjoyed a highly successful period under his leadership.

De la Fuente has transformed his tenure into one of the most successful chapters in recent Spanish football history. Since replacing Luis Enrique in December 2022, he has guided Spain to three major trophies, including the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League, Euro 2024, and the 2026 World Cup. His competitive record has also been impressive, with only two defeats across 41 matches during that period.

The agreement also reflects De la Fuente’s long-standing relationship with the Spanish football structure. Before taking charge of the senior side, he spent years working with Spain’s youth teams and has now been part of the national setup for 14 years. RFEF president Rafael Louzan confirmed the contract extension and highlighted the coach’s contribution to the country’s recent achievements, while the new deal is expected to place De la Fuente among the federation’s better-paid figures.

De la Fuente’s next challenge will arrive in the UEFA Nations League 2026-27, with Spain scheduled to begin their campaign away against England at Wembley on September 26. With his future secured through 2032, the coach can now focus on maintaining Spain’s competitive level while preparing the squad for the next major international tournaments, including the 2030 World Cup on home territory.
