Spanish TV journalist Pipi Estrada claims Atlético Madrid CEO Gil Marín has told Julián Álvarez that his release clause will be reduced if he scores 20 goals.
The journalist said:
“According to the information I have, as I mentioned before, after the match against Liverpool, both club CEO Gil Marín and the player himself (Álvarez) were satisfied with his performance and his very positive attitude. This will undoubtedly give Atlético fans reassurance.
“In addition, Gil Marín has made a genuine commitment, and as he has said: ‘A real commitment that I make is one that I will fulfill.’ This is one of those promises. He told Álvarez that if he can score 20 goals — and pay attention, it is an ‘if’ — the club will reduce the amount of his release clause.”
According to previous reports from Spanish outlets including Marca and AS, Álvarez currently has a €500 million release clause in his Atlético Madrid contract.
So far this season, Álvarez has made three appearances for Atlético Madrid, providing one assist but has yet to score a goal.
