Manchester United are keeping a close watch on Alejandro Balde’s situation at Barcelona as they consider strengthening the left-back position before the transfer deadline. The 22-year-old Spain international has attracted attention at Old Trafford, although United are reportedly cautious about their chances of completing a deal. The club had previously explored a move for Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall earlier in the summer.

Balde’s future has become uncertain after he was left out of Barcelona’s squad for the 5-0 victory over Elche. His absence came amid growing transfer speculation, with Barcelona coach Hansi Flick keen to discuss the defender’s situation directly before deciding what comes next. Balde is understood to want greater clarity over his role, particularly with João Cancelo and Xavi Espart also capable of operating in his position.

Should Barcelona decide to allow Balde to leave and the player show interest in joining United, the Premier League club would reportedly prefer a season-long loan with an option to make the transfer permanent. Barcelona are believed to value Balde between €30 million and €40 million, giving United a potential route to strengthen their squad without immediately committing to a major permanent transfer.

United’s interest is also driven by concerns over Luke Shaw’s ability to handle the physical demands of playing regularly in both the Premier League and Champions League. Shaw was a consistent starter in the league last season, but his history of injury problems remains a concern.
