Como are continuing their ambitious summer recruitment ahead of a historic 2026/2027 campaign, with former Manchester United defender Willy Kambwala reportedly set to join the Serie A club. The move is part of Como’s efforts to strengthen their squad as they prepare for their first-ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League.

The club, managed by Cesc Fabregas, have been investing heavily in the squad to ensure they can compete on multiple fronts. Como have reportedly reached an agreement with Villarreal to bring Kambwala to Italy on a season-long loan. The deal is understood to include an option to make the transfer permanent, although Como would not be obligated to exercise it.

Kambwala became familiar to Manchester United supporters after rising through the club’s youth system and earning promotion to the senior team during Erik ten Hag’s tenure. The French defender was viewed as a promising prospect who could eventually become an important part of United’s defence, but a series of injury problems disrupted his development and limited his opportunities.

The 21-year-old eventually joined Villarreal on a permanent basis in 2024, hoping to establish himself in La Liga. However, injuries continued to affect his progress, with Kambwala making only 23 appearances for the Spanish side across his two seasons. A move to Como now gives him an opportunity to rebuild his career while helping the ambitious Italian club prepare for the demands of Champions League football.
