RCD Espanyol VS Real Madrid

Real Madrid will begin their 2026-27 La Liga campaign on Saturday evening when they travel to the RCDE Stadium to face Espanyol. After Barcelona secured the league title in each of the previous two seasons, Jose Mourinho’s side will be determined to reclaim domestic supremacy and make an immediate statement. Espanyol, meanwhile, have already made an impressive start, beating Levante 3-0 on August 16 with Roberto Fernandez scoring twice. The Catalan club finished 11th last season after an inconsistent second half, despite looking capable of competing for European football earlier in the campaign. Real Madrid were given additional time to prepare after their opening league fixture against Real Sociedad was postponed until August 26 because of the number of players involved deep into the 2026 World Cup. Their pre-season campaign was encouraging, with four victories from five matches and three consecutive wins against Ferencvaros, Deportivo La Coruna and Schalke 04. The club also strengthened significantly during the transfer window by bringing in Yan Diomande, Marc Cucurella, Carlos Espi, Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva. Vinicius Junior has also committed his future to the club, further boosting expectations surrounding Mourinho’s first season back in charge.
