Atlético Madrid and Villarreal Set to Profit from Rodri’s €75m Barcelona Transfer

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is set to join Barcelona, and according to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, his former clubs Atlético Madrid and Villarreal will both receive a share of the transfer fee.

Under a FIFA regulation that applies to all clubs where a player was registered between the ages of 12 and 23, a total of 5% of the transfer fee is distributed as a training compensation contribution. Clubs receive 0.25% per year for a player’s time between the ages of 12 and 15, while the percentage increases to 0.50% per year for the period between 16 and 23.

If Rodri completes his move to Barcelona for a fixed fee of €65 million plus €10 million in add-ons, Atlético Madrid would be guaranteed at least €1.5 million from the fixed fee alone. This includes €650,000 for the four seasons Rodri spent at the club before turning 15, and €975,000 for the three seasons after he turned 15. If Manchester City ultimately receive the full €75 million, Atlético Madrid’s total share would rise to €2 million.

Rodri previously spent five seasons at Villarreal, including three campaigns with the first team. Based solely on the €65 million fixed transfer fee, Villarreal would be guaranteed €1.625 million. If the total transfer package reaches €75 million, that figure would increase to €1.875 million.
