Rodri is reportedly leaning toward a move to Barcelona rather than joining Real Madrid, despite Los Blancos having monitored the Manchester City midfielder for an extended period. The 30-year-old has become increasingly attracted to Barcelona’s project under Hansi Flick, with several factors shaping his decision as both Spanish giants compete for his signature.
One of Rodri’s main concerns involves the timing of Real Madrid’s interest. After being liked with the club for years, he reportedly questioned why Madrid only showed stronger intent at this stage. Doubts over Florentino Perez’s level of commitment to the deal also left the midfielder uncertain about how highly the club valued him. Although the issue was discussed during meetings, Rodri apparently did not receive enough reassurance to remove his concerns.
The midfielder is also believed to have asked about the atmosphere inside Real Madrid’s dressing room. Reports of internal tensions reportedly prompted him to seek clarification from the club’s hierarchy, which provided an explanation but failed to completely eliminate his doubts. While the situation was not necessarily decisive on its own, it contributed to Rodri’s hesitation as he weighed his options.
Barcelona ultimately strengthened its position by presenting a project that appeals strongly to Rodri. Flick’s tactical approach and the club’s playing philosophy are believed to suit the midfielder, while his close relationships with several Spain teammates at Barcelona could make the transition even easier. Barcelona’s quicker movement in negotiations has also given the Catalan club an advantage, leaving Real Madrid facing a decision over whether to pursue another midfielder or wait until January.
