Shin Tae-yong officially began his tenure as Persija Jakarta head coach by overseeing the club's first preseason training session ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The opening workout at the Persija Training Ground in Depok was designed to help the players adapt to the new coaching staff while allowing the former Indonesia national team manager to assess the squad's overall condition.
Rather than introducing complex tactical drills immediately, Shin prioritized improving the players' physical fitness and strengthening team chemistry. The South Korean coach believes that building a solid fitness foundation is essential before implementing his preferred high-intensity playing style, making conditioning the primary objective during the early stages of preseason.
The session featured most of Persija's first-team squad, including seven new signings who trained with their teammates for the first time. However, several key players were unavailable as they remained on international duty with Indonesia, giving Shin an opportunity to evaluate other members of the squad, including several promising youngsters promoted from the club's youth system.
The 55-year-old coach expressed satisfaction with the team's initial fitness levels and emphasized that the rebuilding process would be carried out gradually. Once the squad reaches the desired physical standard, Persija will shift its attention to tactical preparation as the club aims to be fully ready for the challenges of the upcoming Liga 1 season.
